This article looks at two high profile women prisons in Britain. It holds the list of high profile women who are known for brutal murders, child killings and repeated offences. The article will in particular look at the crimes these women committed and the judgement held by judges in respect of their sentences.
HMP BRONZEFIELD
It is located in Surrey and is known as being a Category A woman's prison. It is a large female prison with a capacity of 527 inmates, but is known for serial killers, monster moms and terrorists. Further, it has gained a reputation for having the most violent women and a collection of famous inmates.
FRANKIE SMITH: The disgusting woman had allowed her 16 month daughter Star Hobson to be stamped to death by her partner. She was jailed initially to eight years but upon appeal been increased to twelve years in prison upon her partners conviction.
SOPHIE CAMPBELL: Former prisoner in 2020 had spoken out about the treatment female prisoners recieved in the institution. She had described shocking allegations including prisoners giving sexual favours to prison guards for better treatment. She had described the prison as "neglecting inmates in their cells, depriving them of their meals, not giving much needed medical attention or being too rough during searches". She also spoke out about the amount of incited violence in the institution.
JOANNA DENNEHY: Dennehy is a notorious inmate who is known as a serial killer. In 2013, Dennehy had stabbed three men to death and dumped their bodies in ditches around Peterborough. Two other men were stabbed in her attack however survived. She will remain known in history as being only 1/2 women to serve a whole life sentence. In response to her actions committed she had commented that she "had no regrets" in the killing and attempted killing of her victims.
TRACY CONNELLY: A child murder that shaped the history of all areas in learning. The evil mother of the tragic murder of Baby P. She was incarcerated after admitted to causing and allowing of the death of her child in 2008. The little boy had died after suffering more than fifty injuries at the hands of her partner Steven Barker and paedophile brother Jason Owen. He had received sixty visits from carers and police however all failed to notice the injuries and trauma the young boy faced. She was initially released in 2013 but again recarcerated in 2015 due to breaking the terms of her indefinite sentence.
HMP Peterborough
A closed prison for women and female young offenders. It is the only dual purpose built prison in the United Kingdom, holding both female and male prisoners.
LUCY LETBY: Neonatal nurse Letby has been convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others whilst working at Countess of Chester Hospital. She had targeted 17 babies between June 2015 and 2016. Letby's first victim was a twin boy who was born and died in early June 2015, born prematurely and admitted to the neonatal unit. The jury had agreed due to Letby action the boy collapsing and death was a result of her deliberate injection of air into his bloodstream. The twin sister of Baby A collapsed 28 hours after the death of her brother, however she recovered. Her trial had taken nine months whereby the jury had to listen to intense and detailed evidence. She had 22 charges - seven of murder and fifteen of attempted murder. After the jury deliberated for more than 110 hours the jury had found the 33 year old guilty of child murders. She will serve a life sentence in prison for the murder and attempted murder. As a result of this case, politicians want to hold NHS managers more accountable for better regulations: patient focus and efficiency risks.
CHELSEA O'MAHONEY: O'Mahoney allegedly assaulted her lover due to finding texts exchanged with another woman. She was a freed from prison after serving eight years on manslaughter and grevious bodily harm charges in 2006, and now convicted of assaulting her lover on two occassions. At 14 she had recorded her 'friends' kick a gay barman to death in 2004 in London South Bank. She had told the victim David Morley to "pose for the camera" as he was savagely attacked by the friends, and she had kicked him whilst he was helpless dying on the London streets. Now she is known for the assault of her girlfriend Eujanie Eversley.
EMMA TUSTIN: She subjected her stepson baby Arthur to horrific torture and abuse before murdering him in the family home during COVID lockdown. Daily abuse was subjected to the young boy, with around 130 injuries found upon his death. It was found that he had been starved of food and water, and poisoned with salt and finally died due to a brain injury caused by Tustin. She had accepted she had made the young boy endure "child cruelty over a prolonged period of time", including the standing by the door for 12-14 hours a day. Barrister KC Mary Prior had stated that there was no remorse by Tustin for the treatment of Arthur, however mitigation in the case stood at the suicide attempts of the defendant and having a background of abuse. The killer of Arthur Labinjo Hughes had tried to commit suicide after she was jailed for life for the murder of the young boy. She had done this by hanging and then drug overdosing during her criminal trial. She was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 29 years. However, discussions are held that General Suella Braverman is putting in propositions to get her sentencing to a whole life order.
